ASTM D543 Practice A - IMMERSION TEST

Weight and Dimensions Changes

Test Specification and Procedures

Testing consisted of immersing three prism coupons of the laminate product in each of the 10 chemical reagents for seven days, then measuring and recording changes in laminate coupons' weight and dimensions along with any loss of gloss, developed texture, decomposition, discoloration, sewer relining, cloudiness, etc.
Each conditioned specimen was weighed to ± 0.005 gms and dimensions were measured (length, width, and depth) to ± 0.005 mm. Laminate dimensions were measured at the centre and at the edges, making a total of nine dimension measurements per laminate coupon.

Figure 3.1 provides a sketch of a laminate coupon labeled where the nine diameter measurements were taken for each test specimen.Measurement locations. All dimension are in centimeters.

Test Laminate coupons
Test laminate coupons for the astm d543 Practice A, Procedure I test were cut from Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics Plates 6, 14, and 16. Eighteen laminate coupons came from Plates 14 and 16 and measured approximately 100 mm in length by 25 mm in width and 5 mm in depth. Twelve laminate coupons came from Plate 6 and measured 76 mm by 25 mm and 5mm deep. Dimension measurements were measured using a digital calliper accurate to ±0.005 mm. While measuring the laminate coupons it was noted that the specimen edges were at a slight angle with respect to the deepness of the material. This slight angle resulted in laminate coupons being moderately wider on one face (top compared to bottom). This slight angle is a characteristic of the JetCut process.
A total of 30 test laminate coupons were tested: three laminate coupons for each of the 10 chemical reagents.Details to know please visit here
